Ipswich Town are believed to be among a number of clubs chasing Southend United midfielder Anthony Grant, though no bid has been made as yet.

Reports emerged over the weekend that the Blues were one of several Championship sides eyeing the 24-year-old midfielder, who is also thought to be attracting interest from Barnsley, Brighton, Bristol City and Hull City. A former Chelsea trainee, Grant has made 126 league appearances for the Shrimpers and emerged as one of their top scorers last season with 8 goals to his name.

Local press reports in Southend have since revealed that Town had made an enquiry for Grant earlier in the summer. However, it appears the Blues have yet to pursue their interest any further, with the League Two side yet to receive any bids for the former England U19 international.

Meanwhile Ipswich boss Paul Jewell has confirmed that the club are closing in on two new signings, with Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and David Stockdale understood to be the men in question. Both players are widely reported to have been at Portman Road today for talks, with Fulham’s Stockdale expected to join on loan while Arsenal’s Emmanuel-Thomas is being lined up for a permanent deal. The club looks set to make an announcement about the duo tomorrow morning having been unable to complete the necessary paperwork today.
