It has been more or less confirmed in the media that Heerenveen defender Pim Balkestein is the man on the verge of signing for Ipswich Town.

Balkestein, 21, has already spent time on trial at Town in the latter stages of last season and played in a reserves friendly against Tottenham.

A fee for the 6ft 4in defender has been agreed and Balkestein is currently negotiating terms with Ipswich.

And in a strange twist, Pim Balkestein may not be the only member of the Balkestein family to be joining Town. His father Luuk, a scout for German outfit Borussia Mönchengladbach, is also reportedly being lined up as Town’s new international scout.
