Another Town Draw Or Something More?

Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy has said on many occasions that a point is better than nothing but I think given the circumstances, he must be desperate for a win tomorrow at Blackpool in order to get us back on track.

Statistics can always be deceiving and I guess you can always find something in them to make your case. Just one defeat in ten games seems impressive until you break down the details and discover that Town have been in front in their last four encounters, only to end up with either a defeat or a draw.

The last match against Huddersfield was perhaps the most disappointing of all and not because we deserved to win but more because having stolen a 2-0 lead we could not capitalize on it and ended up being thankful that we did not lose!

If McCarthy makes the changes he is threatening to, then we could see Stephen Hunt back in the team. He always has something to prove against The Seasiders these days and he is champing at the bit to be involved.

If Jonathan Parr fails a fitness test tomorrow then it would probably mean that Luke Chambers resumes his role at left back – although he could be tempted to put the left sided Tommy Smith there and move Chambers back to accompany Christophe Berre at the centre of the defence?

What Town need most of all is a win but with impeccable timing basement club Blackpool decide to recruit former Birmingham boss Lee Clark ahead of the game with them tomorrow and as everyone knows there is always the x factor that we will have to contend with, now that they have a new man in charge!

I think McCarthy will probably play three up front again but this does depend on the fitness of Johnnie Williams? If he plays, then he will have Murphy and Sammon as the out and out strikers with David McGoldrick nestling in somewhere behind them in the sort of role that Eric Gates used to occupy many moons ago.

Mick McCarthy will no doubt say that he is content with a point if we get another draw tomorrow but this time he will be lying. He and of course we, urgently need a win!
