Where Will Town Finish Next Season?

If you are a betting man, you would be tempted to put a bob or two on Ipswich Town. We are currently joint-favourites to lift the title, but I think we would all be content with an automatic promotion place if that’s what it is to be? Although reaching the top six would be a big improvement on last season, it would not be good for anyone with a heart condition, and let’s face it, we have not been particularly good at it in general.

According to a highly regarded supercomputer, which predicts where all the clubs will finish in League One, it is between us and Sheffield Wednesday to claim the grand prize. We all know, however, that the reason football is so interesting is because of its unpredictability, and I cannot see next season being any easier. The good news is that we no longer have to confront Sunderland. The bad news is that Derby County and Peterborough United are in the mix. Then we have Barnsley, and play-off rivals MK Dons and Wycombe Wanderers to contend with. This league is not easy to get out of.

It took The Black Cats four attempts to go up, and this will be our fourth attempt to break free as well. Let’s hope that is a lucky omen, and with Keiran McKenna at the helm, I am more confident than I have been for many years. Wherever you care to look, there is optimism around the town, and if we were to make a bold start, then I think we might be difficult to catch. Our first match is at Portman Road against Bolton Wanderers. They are a proud old Lancashire club with a great football history who must think they should not be here either. The same applies to Portsmouth, so wherever you care to look, there are clubs in this league who believe they are too good for it!

Town announced today that they had already bypassed 16,000 season ticket sales, and this is in advance of the deadline for “early bird’ sales which ends at 5 pm on Thursday. I think this could be significant. Big crowds for home games can work as the ‘extra man’, and those dubious decisions which invariably favour the home team are often engineered by the vociferous nature of a largely partisan crowd. Everyone is feeling positive about the new season and for good reason. We already had a strong squad – even before our new additions, and with a couple more players destined to arrive in Suffolk before the transfer window closes, there is every reason to feel very optimistic!

The Present Squad should be able to finish between 8th and 4th this coming season, if Squad is strengthen yet further, Playoff’s becomes more of a certainty

Interesting comments John F but I think it is the striking department that will ultimately decide our fate. If McKenna can acquire at least one new proven striker, it could make all the difference to our chances of making promotion. I know it’s a well-worn cliche, but goals win games.
