Today, in the sixth minute of injury time, Kieffer Moore was in the right place at the right time to drive the ball home from close range, after David Ball had his initial shot saved.

Thanks to prolific goalscoring Moore, Rotherham United came away with an unlikely point against derby rivals Doncaster United, to the obvious dismay of head coach Darren Ferguson who commented afterwards, ‘It feels like a defeat and it’s very raw at the moment,’

But Moore has been doing this all season with the Yorkshire side, and although it will be hugely disappointing for his load club Rotherham, Moore must surely return to the fold soon, as Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy has intimated on more than one occasion.

He is the top scorer in all four divisions, and has now amassed an staggering 13 goals so far this season in just 16 starts!

Thankfully, we do have lots of strikers in form at Town at the moment, but there is nothing like having another one in the wings waiting for his chance. Every player will tell you that when you have an understudy striving to take your place, you are very motivated to ensure it does not happen!

Town need competiton for places and this season – apart from the horrendous injury list that has afflicted us, this has been largely the case.

Moore is not just a one trick pony either. His height is obviously a huge advantage but there is more to his game than sheer physicality. He is quite skilful too for a player of his size and this experience of playing at a division below, has improved his game by all accounts.

Manager Mick McCarthy sees too the benefits of bringing him back and said just a couple of weeks ago that he was always in his thoughts. “The intention was to send him out to see whether he could get games and score goals and then we`d take a view on it. And that`s still the same. But, of course, the more he`s scoring goals, the view is that he`s more likely to come back here at Christmas and see whether he can replicate it in the Championship?’

And what a wonderful Christmas present it would be for all of us, if he could replicate his goalscoring habit. He is only 25 and still learning his art but he must be a very confident man at the moment and ready and willing for the challenges ahead.
