Ipswich earned a 1-0 home victory over lowly Preston. The victory puts us just one point below the teams currently third equal in the table so this is indeed encouraging news.
The highlight of the game was a fourth goal for our new star Grant Ward who again impressed. He has added pace and incisiveness to the team this season and the crowd responded every time he was on the ball.
News came before the game that Daryl Murphy was on his way to Newcastle and it was confirmed after the match by manager Mick McCarthy.
Daryl’s story is a great one as it shows how when faith is bestowed on a player (as it was by Mick McCarthy) anything can happen – even becoming top scorer in the division with 27 goals!
Thank you to Daryl for your extraordinary contribution to Ipswich over the past three years and credit where it is due to Mick for seeing his potential and using it to the fullest extent.
Today we missed Daryl’s aerial power but we are promised a replacement before the transfer window. Without it we will slide so this is pivotal to our season I believe.
The match was drab aside from the goal but we got the result we wanted and now sit next to Norwich in the table – just above them, of course if only on goal difference for now but that is good enough!
Interesting times ahead…
