With news that former Manchester United midfielder Josh Harrop is expected to complete his loan move today, we now hear of a new imminent signing!  The TWTD website revealed this morning that Town are closing in on the loan signing of Barnsley winger Luke Thomas, and this loan deal could also be completed before the end of the day.

The 21-year-old winger has been given the all-clear by the Tykes to proceed with the move, and the former Derby and Cheltenham player is apparently keen to pursue pastures new. He is already at Portman Road we believe, and there could be a press conference either this afternoon or sometime tomorrow morning.

Thomas is an attacking midfielder and predominantly left-footed. He began his career with National League side Cheltenham Town, having had a trial with Portuguese side Benfica in 2015. He joined Derby County in 2016 on a four year deal for an undisclosed fee but was loaned out to Coventry before Barnsley paid 2.2 million pounds for his services in In June 2019.

Like Harrop, Thomas has played for  England under ’20s, coming on as an 80th-minute substitute for Luke Bolton in the 0-0 draw against the Netherlands on September 6th, 2019.

Sadly, he is not a prolific goalscorer, having netted just eight times in 126 appearances for five clubs. Yet, at 21, he is still developing as a player, and if he can add goals to his undoubted midfield skills, then he could be a real asset.

The Soudley-born winger is a bit on the short side at just  5ft 6inches but he has some ability, and along with Preston’s Josh Harrop, they could just be the fresh faces that the Blues desperately to kick start the season – especially with home games against Peterborough and Sunderland forthcoming.
