Preston midfielder Keith Treacy is supporters’ first choice for strengthening Ipswich midfield, according to latest Vital poll.

Following our recent poll concerning possible strike targets, this week Vital Ipswich has been asking Town fans which midfielders you think Paul Jewell should be targeting.

The arrival of Michael Chopra – who topped our prospective striker poll – and Nathan Ellington in the past two weeks has significantly strengthened the frontline, but now the focus turns to other positions. Midfield looks to be a priority with released club captain and top scorer David Norris recently joining Portsmouth while influential loanee Jimmy Bullard has returned to Hull City – and, it seems, won’t be coming back.

With that in mind, Town have recently been linked with a number of midfielders, but which do you think is the best option? We offered you a choice between eight of the reported targets, and here is how you voted:

47% – Keith Treacy (Preston North End)
28% – James Coppinger (Doncaster Rovers)
9% – Faris Haroun (Germinal Beerschot)
5% – Liam Sercombe (Exeter City)
4% – Danny Green (Dagenham & Redbridge)
4% – Dean Marney (Burnley)
2% – Neil Kilkenny (Leeds United – joined Bristol City)
1% – Craig Conway (Dundee United – joined Cardiff City)

It looks like Preston’s Keith Treacy is the clear favourite for Ipswich fans, claiming nearly half the vote at 47%, while Doncaster’s James Coppinger comes second. There was also a small amount of support for Town’s European scouting with Belgian Faris Haroun taking 9%. Other than that, the remaining choices were little fancied: lower league duo Liam Sercombe and Danny Green claimed only 4% each with Burnley’s Dean Marney receiving 2%, while Neil Kilkenny and Craig Conway have already secured moves to other clubs since the poll began.

Treacy might be the top choice for the fans, but there has been little suggestion yet that Blues boss Jewell is quite so eager. Preston manager Phil Brown revealed on Friday that no bids had been received for 22-year-old Treacy, and links with the Republic of Ireland international have somewhat faded in recent weeks.

It is quite the opposite situation with Coppinger however, with Jewell known to be interested in the 30-year-old. However, the Blues boss has so far been frustrated in his pursuit, with reports having circulated towards the end of last week that Town may have had another bid rejected for Rovers’ Player of the Year.

This week’s poll: ‘Should Ipswich sell Scotland and Priskin now that Chopra and Ellington have arrived?’ (See right-hand column to view the list and place your vote)
