Tranmere Rovers have rejected an offer from an unnamed Championship club for defender Aaron Cresswell, who is thought to be interesting Ipswich Town.

Speculation has grown this week that Town could be closing in on Cresswell, who was first linked with the Blues in May. No transfer fee would be required for the young left back, who has turned down the offer of a new deal at Prenton Park, but compensation would be due to the League One club because Cresswell is under 24.

It is unknown whether Town are the club to have made a bid for Cresswell, but Tranmere manager Les Parry has said that the offer made to them is far below their valuation of the 21-year-old. Championship rivals Doncaster Rovers may also be the club in question having been linked with Cresswell themselves, whilst Premier League newcomers Swansea City are also said to be interested.

Defence and midfield now look to be the priority areas for Town boss Paul Jewell following the arrival of Nathan Ellington yesterday. Numerous names have been linked with continued speculation surrounding Doncaster’s James Coppinger, while Dagenham & Redbridge are understood to have accepted an offer from an unknown party for reported Town target Danny Green.
