Ipswich Town are rumoured to be pursuing Preston North End defender Sean St Ledger ahead of the closure of the transfer window.

St Ledger, who has 16 caps for the Republic of Ireland, joined Preston from Peterborough United in the summer of 2006 for around £225,000. However, reports suggest that the Lilywhites are keen to keep hold of the highly-rated 26-year-old, who they have priced at around £2.5 million.

Ipswich manager Paul Jewell is known to be looking for a defender ahead of the transfer deadline on Monday evening, having previously missed out on Pascal Chimbonda. However, despite having been prepared to spend upwards of £1.5 million on striker Charlie Austin prior to him joining Burnley on Friday, there is some doubt over whether the Blues would be willing to spend such a large sum on St Ledger, with funds likely to be required to reinforce other areas of the field.
