The Blues blew their chance to ease away from the relegation threat by throwing away a lead at Bristol City.
Daryl Murphy started in place of Aaron Mclean who looks set to return to Hull City, and the on loan Celtic striker put Town ahead after good work from David McGoldrick.
Lee Martin then fired wide from four yards in what will be widely regarded as the miss of the season.
Ipswich were made to pay for that as Stephen Davies, on as a substitute for the injured Ryan Taylor, levelled for the Robins.
Then with seconds to go old Town favourite Jon Stead popped up to score City’s late, late winner.

Town were pretty dreadful and while they could have won it, they just about deserved a draw but instead ended up losing and are still without a win in 2013.
Davies replaced the frontman but it was strike partner Sam Baldock who produced the first decent effort of the half when his right-footed shot from just inside the box deflected inches wide of Scott Loach`s left-hand post. Murphy broke the deadlock on the half hour.

David McGoldrick fed him on the edge of the penalty box and the striker rolled marker Liam Fontaine with ease before coolly finishing beyond Tom Heaton.

Fontaine`s defending was so bad that had Murphy missed the target, referee Stephen Martin would have had little option but to award a penalty and a possible red card with the centre-back attempting to pull back the former Sunderland forward.

Mick McCarthy`s Ipswich should have doubled their advantage only for a ‘miss of the season` contender from Lee Martin who fired wide from four yards with the goal at his mercy.

That miss proved costly two minutes after the interval when Davies grabbed his goal, leaving Stead to grab the win.
