Town Players Need A Kick Up The Backside

Christophe Berra, the man who gifted Lincoln their second goal and was also responsible for another wayward header against QPR that lead to our defeat had the audacity to say,’ We will need to play as well as we can and be more consistent. We need to get back to being difficult to score against.’

Well, that is stating the blatantly obvious Christophe and I sincerely hope you are prepared to take some of the blame my man because you have been performing poorly for most of the season.

Luke Chambers often takes the stick but in truth if he was back to his natural position of playing in central defence, I think he would struggle to do any worse than you!

And if you thought that last statement from Berra was a pathetic response to a dire situation, what did he say about the minnows from the Vanarama League?

‘They are a full time outfit so were very fit and we had to match that.’ Are you serious? You get paid perhaps ten times as much as these players and you have the audacity to suggest that we have to try to match them in terms of fitness and application!

I think our squad as a whole needs a reality check and it sometimes does make me question whether they are still playing for the manager? They appear not to be playing for the fans and this alone is very good cause for concern.

Admittedly, the ultra negative tactics employed by manager Mick McCarthy hardly fills players with much confidence I would have thought but sometimes it is better to stay noble silent than come out with all this rubbish that merely exacerbates an already tense situation for the club and its supporters.

Berra believes it will be much different in the replay because they will have to come at Town and leave themselves vulnerable at the back. Given our recent record in F.A. Cup replays of late, I would not be too sure about that?

We have not progressed further than the third round since 2010 and under McCarthy have gone out at the first time of asking every season so optimism is at an all time low.

But I will leave the final word to Christophe, as he seems to have lots to say on the subject of that home draw.

‘It was a scrappy game and to them it was a Cup Final. It will be a different game at their place. They will be expected to do well and expecting a cup shock.’

Funny that Christophe because so are we!
