Manager Roy Keane has revealed that Ipswich Town are closing in on another mystery loan target from an unnamed Premier League club.

Town already have Tottenham Hotspur duo Andros Townsend and Jake Livermore on loan deals as well as Celtic defender Darren O’Dea. However, Keane was known to be approaching further targets at the time of Livermore’s signing, and with the Blues’ squad still looking a little thin, further additions would certainly be a bonus.

‘We are in talks with club and player at the moment and we might have news on that tomorrow maybe’, Keane told the Ipswich Town Official Website; ‘He’s at a Premier League club and and there’s a good chance he will go straight into squad for the Coventry game – if we can make it happen.’

The identity of the player in question remains unknown, but some reports have suggested that the target is a midfielder or defender – news which is likely to raise some eyebrows given the opinion among many Town fans in our recent poll that another striker should be the priority. There have been several players rumoured to be on Keane’s wish list in the last few weeks, but Spurs defender Kyle Naughton has since joined Leicester City, whilst Keane’s comments about the target playing for a Premier League club indicate that it cannot be Swansea striker Craig Beattie. This does not however rule out Sunderland’s Jack Colback, who has been linked on numerous occasions after starring for Town on loan last season.

Keane’s intent to bring the new man to Portman Road in time for Saturday’s home match against Coventry City is hopefully not wishful thinking, with the Blues not exactly having a reputation for quick signings this season! After a busy September however, games continue to come thick and fast for October and further cover anywhere on the field can surely only be a good thing. Fingers crossed for Friday, folks!
