Colchester frontman Kevin Lisbie has emerged as a target for Ipswich boss Jim Magilton after scoring 17 goals for the club’s relegated neighbours, according to reports.

Lisbie was signed on a free transfer from Charlton Athletic in the summer last season and went onto be one of the highest goalscorers in the Championship last season – not bad for a team now in League One. There were reports that Town could move for the Jamaican at the back end of last season, but nothing confirmed.

However, any move for the 29-year-old is subject to the U’s completing a deal for Cheltenham striker Steven Gillespie. It is likely that the striker could cost up to £1 million.

Town fans may be disappointed that Magilton has not moved for a higher profile striker after appearing to miss out on Shola Ameobi as well as Kyle Lafferty. The 17 goals last season is not to be laughed at, but Tractor Boys supporters may feel that there are better options out there.
