Ipswich are in talks to sign Swiss international Frederic Vessell and South African Bongani Khumalo in time for the Championship season start next month.

Former Manchester City and Manchester United youngster Vessell is a free agent after being released by David Moyes and has enjoyed a good spell on trial with the Blues already, playing in the 2-1 friendly win at Gillingham.

The 20-year-old is likely to be involved at barnet and then Colchester United on Tuesday.

Town are also close to agreeing a season-long loan deal with Spurs for Khumalo who has yet to play for the north London club despite them paying nearly £2m to Supersport United after he impressed in the 2010 World Cup.
