Town Have Time On Their Side

Some might say a break is just what the blues first team need but I am not too sure?

They were all rested before the Birmingham game, when manager Mick McCarthy decided to field his reserves in the FA Cup replay and look where that got us!

Our next game is not until Tuesday February 2nd, when we take on Reading at Portman Road and that is over a week away.

The Royals took the FA Cup a bit more seriously than us it seems and remain in it and that is why our game with them that was scheduled for the Saturday was re-arranged.

It may turn out to be a blessing in disguise though because we have won the last fifteen matches played at Portman Road under floodlights so here’s hoping because our form at home has been disappointing so far this season.

The weather may well dictate just how much work gets done on the training field because too much ice or rain can play havoc with plans and what the management team want to address is our defensive frailty and our inability to take gilt-edged chances.

There is no need to practice penalties however because we never seem to get one! Is it because we are unlucky or just not threatening enough? Maybe it is a bit of both? We are an honest side though and we don’t go looking for them – unlike some teams we have faced of late and credit must go to the management team for that at least.

The result on Saturday was more or less what I expected to be honest. I always felt that this was a game that we could easily lose and the sending off and some abysmal refereeing ensured sadly that we did.

Referee Michael Bull was an example to us all of just how poor some of these officials can be.

Perhaps Jonathan Douglas deserved his red and I have noted that the club are not appealing against it but the ref should have evened things up with a sending off for Toral, after he kicked Ryan Fraser in the head with a very high challenge on the edge of the Birmingham box late in the game.

So now it is back to the drawing board for the blues but the score-line did not reflect the blues performance on Saturday and for that we should be grateful I guess.
