Town Could Still Make The Top Six By Christmas

It may seem a little far off at the moment but if Town were to gain the bulk of the points at home during the rest of this month, then there is every chance that we could still end up in the top six by Christmas after all!

This Saturday we entertain Reading, who have had a mixed bag of results so far this season. They find themselves in 14th place in the table as things stand, five points behind the Blues.

In their last league encounter they were beating Cardiff City 2-0 at home, until two goals in the last ten minutes for the visitors ensured that the game ended in a draw.

Like us, they defeated Derby County away in November and like us, lost to Sheffield United away by an equally narrow margin.

All the indications are that this will be a very close encounter but with home advantage, I think we could sneak it on the day.

The trip away to Wolves looks very daunting however but every side has an off day and we have to hope that the leaders fall a bit short when they face us on the 23rd of December.

Then on the Boxing Day, we have another home game against QPR and I think we have every right to believe we can win this one too.

Derby County are at Portman Road on the 30th of December and if we could do the double over them then I think we would almost certainly find ourselves in the top six. It is a very big ask I know but even in football, sometimes miracles do actually happen!

Well, this is what my heart is telling me and I will probably put my money where my mouth is on those results.

My head on the other hand sadly knows that there are no easy games in the Championship and we could just as easily lose them all but as Christmas approaches with ever increasing rapidity, I want to remain positive because in this game you just never really know?

If Mick McCarthy can refrain from the safety game and instead play to his strengths, then we have the firepower to defeat anyone on our day and bring back some real festive cheer to the Portman Road faithful over the Christmas period.
