Newcastle United topped Google searches for 2016/17 with Aston Villa following in second place, but which other clubs featured in the top ten.

Looking at the top searches across the last campaign Newcastle, Aston Villa, Derby County, Fulham, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, Preston North End, Queens Park Rangers, Wigan Athletic and Wolverhampton Wanderers all featured prominently but the country breakdowns for where those searches came from show some interesting results on the map they created on the back of the data.

Of course some country splits make more than enough sense though when you consider players of different nationalities involved in the game and various loan spells out and about around the planet where people were simply searching up on what kind of player they had arriving at their side.

Clicking on the countries in the map tells you which side performed best in that area of the earth but Newcastle dominated with around 66 countries, Aston Villa were second in 33 but why Newcastle would take Canada, with Aston Villa taking Greenland is beyond me, as is Queens Park Rangers dominating in Russia.

With Chinese takeovers in the last 12 months, Wigan Athletic won out there with Ipswich Town taking Algeria.

See for yourself, there are some surprising results.
