Toothless Town Go Down To Another Sad Defeat

Town were stung yet again by a team that quite frankly wanted it more. What was also palpably apparent was the clear gulf in quality between the sides.

Yes, Town did have their chances and missed two golden opportunities when they were trailing 2-0 but no sooner had Sears and McGoldrick failed to find the net, that Fulham went down the other end and increased their lead.

It is rare to admit that Polish keeper Bartosz Bialkowski had an off day but on this occasion he did and for the third Fulham goal he was beaten at the near post again, which is disappointing.

Fulham play some lovely football going forward but are a little vulnerable at the back and if we could only have taken just one of those gilt edged chances before after the break, we may have gone on to get something from the game.

Manager Mick McCarthy said in his post match interview that this defeat made him feel like going home and having a beer. He is not the only one who needed a drink and Town could end up surviving relegation but ending the season in their lowest league position since 1959 and even I did not support Town then!

In fairness to McCarthy, he did pick a fairly attack minded side once again but it was all to no avail in the end sadly.

Christophe Berra got a late consolation for the Blues but it mattered not, as Town returned home to Suffolk with nothing to show for their efforts again.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to see where our next win is going to come from – although we should be able to get something from our away visits to Burton Albion and relegated Rotherham United one would have thought.

This has been a thoroughly depressing season throughout and I would expect season ticket sales to plummet if Mick McCarthy remains in charge.

We must not forget though that this is as much Marcus Evans’ fault as anybody else’s because he has failed to invest in the future of this club for some seasons now.

Most of all, I feel most sorry for all those true blue supporters who travel home and away, only to witness a season that we all want to quickly try to forget.
