Time To Give Town Fans Some Real Support

It never ceases to amaze me just how dedicated Ipswich Town supporters are.The faithful turn up in large numbers to support the blues, whatever the weather and whatever the form.

The away day following is well worth a special mention too because week in week out, Town can expect to take close to one thousand die-hard supporters, wherever they might happen to play. I take my hat off to all of you, for your dedication and support, in what so far this season has been largely mediocre fare and yet it has not deterred the all-weather supporter!

Is there light at the end of the player`s tunnel? Well maybe. Certainly the strong resolve of both Mick McCarthy and more importantly owner Marcus Evans on transfer deadline-day, suggest that Ipswich Town are no pushovers anymore, when the bigger clubs come knocking on the door. Under former chairmen Nigel Clegg this would not have happened. He would have caved in to the first offer and one has visions of him ringing around to see if any club was interested in the Town team, if the phone went silent on transfer deadline day. It was quite simply appalling.

Whatever you may think on the rights on wrongs of not doing a deal, I am of the view that it was a brave decision to make and further confirms to me that Marcus Evans is not just after a quick buck. In an article I read recently, someone compared Marcus to Mr. John and let us genuinely hope so because there is little doubt that the Cobbold`s had the club at heart. Sadly, John Cobbold and his brother Patrick will never see the light of day again in the modern game. All we can realistically hope for is an owner who feels attached to the club and who knows, may finally start to notice a little blue blood running through his veins!

The season has begun disappointingly though, it must be said. A tough fixture list and a lack of goals have meant a poor points tally. The derby game came and went and then we went to Derby and grabbed a deserved point! Is this a turning point in the season – or just another false dawn?

I want to hear from all of you on the topics that matter most to Ipswich Town fans and you may even like to contribute an article or two? At Vital Ipswich we are all ears so start writing and I would particularly like to hear from some of those dedicated followers of Ipswich who go everywhere to support the blues, come rain shine or storm. How did you get the bug?
