This Deal Is All But Done

Former Manchester United midfielder Josh Harrop is expected to sign for Ipswich Town on a season-long loan tomorrow after spending time at Portman Road this afternoon.

Harrop made his only appearance in a Manchester United shirt in a 2-0 home win over Crystal Palace. It was the final game of the 2016/17 season, and the youngster scored the opening goal! The 25-year-old is in the record books too, as his goal made him Manchester United’s 100th different scorer in the Premier League!

Sadly, his Red Devils career stuttered after such an outstanding start, and he was sold to Preston at the start of the new season, signing a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee. Harrop has also represented England’s U20s three times but suffered an anterior crucial ligament injury which kept him on the sidelines until  August 2019.

Now you may think that hiring a player who has suffered a long-term injury is a risky business given our recent record, but Harrop is a free-kick specialist who has scored 13 times in 39 starts. His pedigree is good too, having come through the Manchester United ranks, so there is genuine hope that he could be a real asset this season.

Completing the double over Burton Albion is nothing to write home about, as they are currently propping up the League One table but getting back into the winning habit certainly is. Winning breeds confidence, and we have been woefully short of it of late. With two big games coming up against Peterborough and Sunderland at Portman Road shortly, a few new additions might give us the impetuous we so badly need.

There is talk too that Luke Thomas might be heading this way shortly. He is unhappy with his limited game time at Barnsley, and the Blues are understandably monitoring the situation closely.
