This Could Be The Best Christmas Gift

I know they say that points in the bag are better than games in hand, but this has not helped Town much in the past, so could the reverse be true? There were not many games played in League One today for obvious reasons but the matches that were played involved some of our closest competitors, and the results were interesting.

Lincoln City thrashed lowly Burton 5-1 but Charlton Athletic could only draw at home to Plymouth Argyle 2-2. They were fortunate to get even a point from this encounter, having trailed twice. This leaves the Blues in 7th place in the table, but we now have a game in hand on the teams occupying those automatic promotion places, and the gap to Portsmouth in second is just three points!

All the other clubs above us in the division have played the same amount of games, and whilst we don’t play, it gives us time to heal. We have a huge injury list, but this enforced lay-off might be the best Christmas present we could wish for, as it gives our walking wounded valuable recovery time.

Let’s not fool ourselves here. No side is going to run away with the title – or indeed automatic promotion, and assuming we do get to finish this season, then the outcome is going to go right to the wire. I can see Sunderland and Oxford United improving as the season develops and there could be as many as ten teams in the mix.

In the past, when we have had games in hand on the rest we have blown our chances, so what is to say a bit of reverse psychology might not aid our cause? We are six points off top spot with a game in hand, and as our injury list starts to decrease, there is every hope we could take full advantage of it. This could be the best Christmas present ever!

You are right, Town have a great break but will they take it, that’s what Want to know!

Hi Joe, and we have to believe that when some of our key players return to the fold we can step up to the plate. Seeing is indeed believing, though.
