The Owls Are The Visitors To Portman Road

Extraordinarily Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy has a wonderful record against The Owls and has gone 14 matches without losing to Wednesday.

This remarkable record goes back to the days when he was Millwall boss in 1985 so the omens are looking good for the Blues at Portman Road on Saturday afternoon.

Even McCarthy cannot quite understand the stats and said in his weekly press conference that it is hard to put your finger on why this record has been untarnished for so long. ‘ It is a strange stat that one. It`s a good one, actually. I like being the holder of that one.’ He will hope it continues tomorrow.

Our visitors from Yorkshire will be desperate for some points and a win would see them in the play-off’s and a four to one chance of promotion to the Premier League.

Ipswich Town’s top scorer Tom Lawrence is expected to be fit for this match, having missed out in the narrow defeat to Rotherham United. He trained today apparently and looked sharp.

The owls midfielder David Jones is expected to come in for Kieran Lee after recovering from illness but forward Fernando Forestieri is still not fully match fit after his knee problem and he is likely to feature at some stage off the bench for the third game in a row.

There maybe room in the Town side for David McGoldrick, Cole Skuse, Emyr Huws and Grant Ward, as they were all rested when they were up in Yorkshire last Saturday.

McCarthy has said that it would be unfair on both Wednesday and Nottingham Forest if he experimented with his squad again so we can expect a near to full strength side tomorrow afternoon.

The Tractor Boys are unbeaten in their last seven home league games, winning the last two in succession. They last time we won three on the spin was back in August 2015 when we went on to record five straight victories!

I hope I am wrong but I think a draw is on the cards and Town will have to watch out for Steven Fletcher, who has scored four goals in his last four league games for Sheffield Wednesday and this after a run of 13 games without a goal!
