The Ipswich Town Mystery Thickens!

Regular blogger CMC explains the mystery of why Ipswich Town are locked into the Championship?

As we start the New Year there is a lot of optimism in the air and being an Ipswich Town fan is again an exciting business!

We now have a squad that his considerable more depth and strength to it and the addition of loanees Ryan Frazer and Ainsley Maitland-Niles have added pace to our team.

Our strikers are all now finding the net and our defence is beginning to look solid again.

The midfield too is looking more creative too so it’s all looking good at the moment.

So then what’s the problem?

The main issue as I can see it is this:

Over the past few years Mick and Terry have worked wonders on a shoestring budget but every year after promising results we find ourselves in the same position we are in now.

The Board are apparently saying that there is money to spend in the transfer window. Mick, however, is saying that he is unlikely to spend as there are no players out there better than our current squad.

Now that all sounds good until you factor in the other point that Mick makes this and every year which is that we can’t compete with the top Championship teams.

This year its the likes of Middlesborough or Derby but it same old same old, year on year.

So then what’s going on? How is it that we can never compete with the top teams and then at the same time there’s no one out there better than the players we have?

This doesn’t add up as the Middlesborough and Derby of this world obviously manage to find these higher quality players from somewhere so how can this be?

It remains a bit of a mystery but whatever the truth really is, we appear trapped in a Championship cell and unless one year we take that 25% play-off chance, then this is where we will stay.

Before this year’s small chance of automatic promotion is over can we please do what the ‘top teams’ do and buy some strong additions to our squad at long last.

I suspect Mick is being loyal to the people who pay his wages in what he says but they really need to see the bigger picture, which could then give them the chance of big cash and a bright future in the Premiership!

Break the cycle this year please and then we can really have a happy and PROSPEROUS New Year!

CMC.
