Still Got The Blues For You

I remember as a kid playing football in the park with my big cousin. He was examining the old first division and making his early season assessment of what would happen. The trouble was, he was always right and when he told me that he thought Ipswich would go down that year, I struck a bet with him that they wouldn’t and I guess from that moment on Town blood was in my veins.

The following year, in January 1969, Bill McGarry left the club to join Wolves and the little known Bobby Robson took over, which convinced my cousin even more that the club was doomed and it made me even more determined to prove him wrong! The rest, as they say, is history and as Ipswich Town continued to defy the laws of football logic, my love affair with this wonderful club grew stronger by the day. Forty five years later I am still as passionate about the club as ever and although I have lived for more than twenty years in the Netherlands, it has not dampened one jot my enthusiasm for all things Ipswich and this obsession with this club I know will never die.

Why you might wonder did I take on the job of editor? Well, the reasons are many but mainly I guess because it gives me a platform to express my views on the club. I have my own website aptly called, Being Frank On Football but this does not allow me to concentrate too much on the team I love – although I do manage to sneak in the odd article from time to time!

The truth is that I love writing and I love writing about football and especially Ipswich Town and if you feel like me why don’t you get involved too! Drop me a line and tell me what you think about the set up at Portman Road these days?

Top scorer David McGoldrick looks to be on his way out of the club, as Leicester City are said to be very fond of him but so too is owner Marcus Evans apparently so what are your views on his possible departure? Leicester have had one bid turned down and it looks certain they will up their offer but Town don’t have anyone to replace him and the goals per games ratio of our remaining strikers is abysmally poor. What will Mick McCarthy do about it? Does he have the time to fill his boots before the transfer window closes in just over 24 hours time?

The clock is ticking on a number of other issues that I want to focus on in September and one of course is our goal shy midfield. Will our defence outscore our midfield for the second season in a row or can we still find another Johnnie Williams to get us firing on all cylinders again?

I would like to hear from any true blue supporter on all things Ipswich Town and why not contribute with an article or two too! Our collective goals are I guess exactly the same and that is to bring the good times back to Portman Road. Let’s face it, we have waited long enough!
