In his latest blog, CMC argues that it is time to stop moaning and start applauding when the team you love starts winning again!

Three days after another disappointing draw against Birmingham, Ipswich turned out under the floodlights to play lowly Wigan.

The lowest home crowd this century were present in the hope of a revival and that is exactly what we saw.

Who would have predicted that after the misery of the last few months an atmosphere not far off a festive carnival would envelop us on a Tuesday night with Town in 17th place in the Championship table.

Ipswich Town’s passing was much better in patches and the crowd were buoyed by the skilful ball skills of our young wing backs – Jordan Spence and Myles Kenlock. Both showed speed and silky skills throughout, probing forward with excellent runs.

It was Kenlock who set up the first goal which David McGoldrick placed neatly in the bottom corner and the ground rang out with the chanting of his name. Another goal followed from Freddie Sears, who never gave up and our third, again from him, towards the end made for a great scoreline. Bart was probably man of the match again though, with some great saves and we really need to hold onto him at all costs.

Entertainment was also provided by the referee who substituted himself, which amused the crowd – particularly as the new one looked very unsure of himself at first.

Even some off the field entertainment amused the crowd and this was provided over the loudspeaker system, with two announcements asking for ‘Steve Finch to report to the nearest steward’.

Mass amusement developed into wild fits of laughter, as the announcer for a third time spoke saying ‘Please would ….. (he paused so the crowd shouted Steve Finch) … he then said another name Mary O’Hara – to which hysteria broke out around the recently so troubled Portman Road. Chants of ‘who are you’ and ‘Steve Finch, he does what he wants’ followed.

This was a really good evening for all who watched and those who continued to moan afterwards on the Radio Suffolk phone-in, need to stop and think. This was a really enjoyable evening with our team winning 3-0. Come on you moaners!

It was the perfect tonic!

By the way – who is Steve Finch? We need to sign him up!
