Spurs defender Bongani Khumalo is being lined up by Ipswich in a loan deal next month.

The South African skipper has played in the World Cup, scoring against France, and has loan spells with Charlton and but has yet to make his full debut for Tottenham Hotspur.

Khumalo has been training with the Blues and made an appearance in Wednesday’s 2-1 friendly win at Crawley Town.

Blues boss, Mick McCarthy likes what the 26-year-old centre half can offer and said: ‘I was pleased with Bongani.

‘He’s very quick and athletic. I thought he did okay. I’m pleased with him.

‘We’re not looking to buy or sign him, we’re looking at a possible loan deal.’

If a loan deal can be done then the Bafana Bafana boy will continue to train with Town then sign in time for the Championship opener at Reading next month.
