Defender Ibrahima Sonko has apparently dropped a hint on his Twitter page that he may be set to sign a deal with Ipswich.

Sonko, who is a free agent since being released by Stoke City earlier in the summer, has been strongly linked with a return to his former club Reading having recently been on trial at the Madejski Stadium. However, the 30-year-old’s Twitter page – understood to be genuine – has revealed that a reunion at Ipswich with his former Royals team-mate Ivar Ingimarsson may be on the cards instead.

Asked by a fan when he would be signing a contract with Reading, Sonko responded: ‘There was not a follow up from Reading. It looks like I could meet with my friend Ivar again soon Instead.’

More defensive additions are surely Town boss Paul Jewell’s top priority at this stage, with Ingimarsson and Damien Delaney both doubts for this weekend’s match against Hull City. Liverpool’s Daniel Ayala has been the subject of many rumours this week but is now believed to be closing on a move to East Anglian rivals Norwich City, whilst reports overnight claim that Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand has turned down a loan move to Ipswich. Also linked is 22-year-old Stoke City defender Ryan Shotton, who is also said to be attracting interest from Derby County and Burnley.
