Tommy Smith might have won the personal goal battle with Christophe Berra, but he was quick to praise the impact the Scottish international has had this season.

Grabbing his 6th goal of the season against Sheffield Wednesday means Smith finishes one goal ahead of Berra, and in third place in our scoring charts for the season and speaking to the Official Site he was obviously delighted with that.

‘Six is my best return for the season and I’m delighted with that. We were having our own battle to see who came out on top between Christophe and me so I’m pleased to have got in front of him but on a serious note, he has been fantastic for us.’

Smith goes on to credit the way that he slotted into the first team and said he was fully deserving of the awards he picked up at our end of season bash.

In other news, youngsters Teddy Bishop and Darren McQueen have been handed their professional one year contracts by the club.

Midfielder Bishop has progress through our youth ranks and has been rewarded for his development over the last two years during his time as a scholar, and he did feature in the first team this season with trips to Middlesbrough and Yeovil Town, as well as representing our U21 side.

Striker McQueen was given permission to train with us by his club Tottenham Hotspur and he has been impressive over the last few months, becoming a regular in our U21 team.
