Second Half Pleases McCarthy

Manager Mick McCarthy has said he felt it was a deserved draw in the end against Derby County, but only based on our second half performance.

Derby took the first half lead, and the manager had to admit we were ‘awful’ in that period, but a Christophe Berra leveller in the second half gave us a point on the day.

Speaking to the Official Site after the one all draw, McCarthy explained.

‘We went from awful to awesome in the second half, well awesome compared to our first half display anyway. We started passing to a blue shirt, that was the main different. We stopped rushing things. Sounds simple but that’s what we did and we created the better chances.’

McCarthy goes on to say that in the second period we started getting in good positions and Berra’s third goal of the season was ‘great’ following a good delivery and whilst he was delighted to have picked up a point, in some ways he feels the second half showing could’ve seen more goals from us given what we created.

With Kevin Bru and Teddy Bishop gaining their first Championship starts for the club, he described both of their performances as ‘outstanding’ and said they were good technical players so that should do well for us in the season ahead.

With the internationals now upon on, Mick also confirmed that Berra may miss his Scotland call up after he picked up a knock, but more will be known on that tomorrow.
