Teenage striker Jordan Rhodes has one goal for this season and that is to break into the Ipswich first-team. Ideally, he doesn’t want to join former loan club Brentford.

But Rhodes says that if things weren’t going his way, then the Bees would be his first choice for a loan spell having won the League Two title with them last season: ‘A loan is a possibility, but I`m not really thinking about it.

‘If I did then Brentford would definitely be my first choice. The club will always hold a special place in my heart, and I`ll look out for their results.

‘Hopefully I`ll go back and play for them one day, but it might be when I`m 35 or 36.’

The 19-year-old however is focused on becoming a first-team player at Portman Road: ‘Roy [Keane] has told us all we will get a chance if we put the work in. I`m just concentrating on keeping myself fit and hopefully I`ll get a chance in the first team.’

The Blues have Brentford in a pre-season match at Griffin Park next Wednesday night.
