Sources close to Plymouth Argyle suggest that the club are preparing a bid for Ipswich striker Alan Lee.

There has been recent speculation as to whether Lee will be an Ipswich player next season after a disappointing end to the season. The Irishman scored eleven league goals and a solitary Carling Cup goal last season, compared to a total of 17 the season before.

Lee was wanted by Hull City last summer but eventually signed a new deal at Portman Road to then become the clubs highest paid player, and did start the season in fine form. He was subsequently dropped after a baron spell in front of goal but did find the net on the final day of the season, ironically against the Tigers.

Plymouth are said to be interested with a £400,000 bid likely to gain permission to talk to the frontman.

  • I would like to see someone with his expereince and power at Donny. I really hope we are not going to just make up the numbers in the Championship and players like this would be good signings.

  • I dont know whether he would be any good at Plymouth but we need everyone we can get at the moments, although I’d have thought a midfielder would be higher up Sturrocks list!

  • Would be a good player for Plymouth. He would give them some power up front which they are desperately lacking in.

  • In my opinion, it’s up to the player now. Plymouth sounds okay, but Alan Lee is one of a number of players who does not play well away from home – everywhere is miles away from home when home is Home Park! In reference to the comment made by ‘dazza71’, I have to say it may be in Alan Lee’s interest to consider Doncaster. His future at Portman Road is, without doubt, in the balance. With all respect too Donny, Alan Lee is almost garunteed a place in the starting line up on the first day of the season at that club.

  • Alan Lee is a proper old fashioned type of Championship striker and I am a bit bemused that Ipswich fans wouldn’t be fussed if he moved on. A constant aerial threat and a handful for any centre half…Would be a good signing for anyone in the league.

  • ‘DrWatford’, would you have him then? Yes, he’s a good player, but just wondering, what with you competing for promotion etc.. He hardly ‘encourages’ ‘total-football’.

  • I would love Alan Lee at Vicarage Road to be honest. Always been impressed with him and he has a nasty habit of scoring against us!!! Since when have Watford played Total Football? He and Henderson would be a right ol handful.

  • That’s true… at least, I don’t remember it! I can just hear it now: “…and Danny *Shittu plays a long ball up to Alan Lee…”. Fair play I suppose, you’ve just gotta ring your mate Aidy!
