Part Two Of Town’s Player Review.

I listed the other day the sixteen players I think should stay and today, let us look at the ones who might not?

TEDDY BISHOP : He began his Town career like a house on fire but a long list of debilitating injuries, meant that over the last couple of seasons we have only seen him fleetingly.

He has another problem. Mick McCarthy does not regard technical ability as a top priority and has said that he worries about the players application.

Essentially, if you are not prepared to run your socks off then your place in the team is always up for grabs! I have a feeling he might be another Dean Bowditch, who scored a hat-trick on his debut and then eventually disappeared without trace – only to ply his trade at a lower level.

JONAS KNUDSEN : Following in the footsteps of Aaron Creswell and then Tyrone Mings was never going to be easy and so it has proved.

Although he has improved over his time at the club he is still prone to some real howlers and I think his best position is probably centre back and not as a left wing back, where he has played most of his games for Town.

He was known as a long throw specialist but he is not a very accurate one. Yes, he gets the distance but does not trouble defences with it and rarely finds a Town man. Two goals against our fiercest rivals is however his saving grace.

KEVIN BRU : He came as a trialist and impressed in his first season with the club but this term he seems to have lost his impetus for some unknown reason?

His form has not been helped by being in and out of the team but there is some justice in this because he quite often fades out of games, which as a midfield player causes serious problems. He has some technical ability but is very inconsistent so I expect him to be on his way sooner rather than later.

COLE SKUSE : This guy is an endless enigma because as a midfielder his sole responsibility it seems is to protect our defence. He rarely scores goals and passes either sideways or backwards as a rule which does not endear him to Town supporters. He is a fierce tackler but is prone to give dangerous free-kicks away.

It could be argued that he is a necessary evil in the Mick McCarthy regime and for that reason alone, we can expect him to stick around at Portman Road.

DEAN GERKEN : He still wears the number one jersey – although everyone except perhaps Mick McCarthy, knew he would always be our number two!

He is good back-up as an understudy for Bartosz Bialkowski because he has lots of experience at this level and can pull off some fine saves when on form.

He should not however be regarded as our number one again and I hope that our manager has finally learned the errors of his ways.

Tomorrow we will look at the players who must be shown the exit door – that is if they haven’t already!
