Out With The Old In With The New.

And now it’s official. Ipswich Town have parted company with their two 35 year-olds, club captain Luke Chambers, and defensive midfielder Cole Skuse. Chambers has been with the club for nine years and has made 395 appearances for the Blues, notching up 19 goals. He arrived from Forest and at his best, he was a very capable centre-back. Sadly, he found himself playing the wingback role for several different managers, and yet he was always committed to the cause.

Skuse came from Bristol City a year after Chambers and went on to play  268 for the Tractor Boys. He never really got the credit he deserved in a Blue shirt. He was tough in the tackle, technically very gifted and had one of the least rated attributes in the game and that is football intelligence!

Some of you will say good riddance. I am not one of those. In the main, I agree with Mick Mill’s analysis of the pair. They were very loyal servants of the Blues, and the dressing room was always a better place in their presence. Manager Paul Cook told the official website how respected they were at the club. “Not only are they very good footballers, they are stand-out men in the way they conduct themselves. They have been a pleasure to work with, in my short time here, and you won’t find better role models for young players coming through. We thank them for their fantastic service to Ipswich Town football club and wish them every success in whatever they do going forward.”

But as Cook remarked, it is a case of out with the old and in with the new, and I don’t think anyone was surprised to hear this news. What perhaps was more surprising is that Cook has decided to renew contract options on Kayden Jackson and Janoi Donacien. Their deals were due to expire this summer, but he wants to look at both of them more closely. I think this is probably fair enough. I am not convinced that Jackson will cut the mustard but Donacien might just do enough. I don’t think we have seen the best of him so far, and he has had very limited game time. He is quite quick and has a very positive attitude going forward.  They were both signed by Paul Hurst in 2018; along with Toto Nsiala and Jon Nolan, and it will be interesting to see what happens to them?

Freddie Sears will move on too, and I expect to see Gwion Edwards, Emyr Huws and Aaron Drinan going the same way. When all these arrangements are sorted out we can finally look forward to a bright future. New Manager! New owners! New shirt sponsor! New Players! It is all very positive news and we no longer have that massive debt hanging over our heads so the future is suddenly starting to look very bright indeed!

Not sure what you mean Richard? If you are referring to the manager’s insistence that just about everyone should pack their bags then yes, you could be right. There are few squad members that I would miss if I am brutally honest. The whole lot of them are culpable in one way or another.
