Only A Win Will Do For Town At Carrow Road

Last Saturday at Portman Road was arguably the worst display by a Blues side in all of fifty years or more. I can probably only speak for myself here but it was the most depressing performance I have ever witnessed from a Town outfit in all these years, and I have been following them faithfully since 1969!

It was not just that we could only draw against a club that seems destined to return to a lower division but it is the damage it may have done to team spirit and long term Ipswich support.

People from around the world will be watching on Sunday and a fair few of them will be hidden in the corners of bars keeping a very low profile.

I will watch it here in the Netherlands but in the comfort of my own home but the Town faithful who have tickets for the match are the brave ones and I so desperately hope their loyalty is rewarded, because anything less than a win will be seen only as damage limitation and nothing else.

Now the one good thing about a derby game is that it is a great leveller and with a good following going to Carrow Road, let us hope that this time around, Town can actually get a shot on target!

Town will have to show lots of grit and determination and no little imagination if they are going to get all three points. In other words, they will have to do the exact opposite to what occurred last week at Portman Road in front of just 13,000 sorry witnesses.

Cloe Skuse remains upbeat though and I guess he has to, having just penned a new contract with the club. He thinks that a win for Town could have a massive impact and if it occurs, would condemn Norwich to another season in this division and propel Ipswich back into the hunt for a play-off place.

Skuse explained, ‘If we win it will be a huge result. It could provide a real spark to our play-off chances. We`re level on points, both in the middle of the table, so if we`re going to make a move towards the play-off places we need to do it pretty soon. We need this win and if they lose, it might have a detrimental effect on them too.’

How right he is and anything less than victory and we can wave goodbye to another season, which will only really be remembered for false dawns and falling gates.
