A training camp in Portugal is on the cards over the course of pre-season for the Ipswich players.

The ‘warm weather camp’ as the club site described it, will take place a couple of days after Town visit Finn Harps in their first pre-season friendly. That game will take place next Tuesday.

The players return for training tomorrow (blimey, that time already!) and manager Roy Keane has told the club site how happy he is with the pre-season schedule: ‘I’m pleased with our plans for pre-season, including the training camp in Portugal.’

‘Things have moved on from the days when players would come back and run up hills for ten miles.

‘There is more of a scientific approach to pre-season now and I’ve moved with the times in that respect. But I’ve also got a bit of an old school approach as well and sometimes it will come down to doing some running at the training ground.

‘We have got the game at Finn Harps next week and will be taking a decent squad with us.Keano has named his provisional squad for the trip to Ireland next week. The players included are what you would usually expect to see in a league match, this is serious business from RK. Would you expect anything less!?
