Town manager Joe Royle has set his intentions on assembling his squad as soon as possible.

Royle said: ‘Inquiries have been made and gone well. Hopefully we will have someone in within a week or two of the season finishing.’

Royle has previously expressed his intentions to permanently sign former loanee Ricardo Fuller.

At the time of his loan, Fuller seemed open to the possibility of a permanent move to Portman Road, although, since his return to Saint Mary’s, the Jamaican has hit a good run of form, and former Town boss George Burely may be reluctnt to let him leave.

Joe has long admitted that he is in need of a defender in his early 20’s to challenge Richard Naylor and Jason De Vos, although no names have been mentioned, and the Town boss has already ruled out a return for Jay McEvely.

Another position on Royle’s shortlist is a new attacking midfielder. Town did not replace the goals of Tommy Miller after he left for Sunderland last pre-season.

Stephan Hunt, the reading midfielder has been mentioned, as has Colin Cameron of Wolves, and the Coventry’s former Arsenal and Everton midfielder Stephen Hughes.

The first two would be available on bosmans, while Hughes would command a fee, something that could prove a problem to Town.
