New Signings Could Revive Ipswich Town Hopes

For the first time in a long time I am feeling much more confident about what this season holds for Ipswich Town football club and I believe there is genuine cause for some optimism.

Tom Adeyemi preferring us to a number of other clubs – including (if you can believe it) Norwich City, has been the icing on the cake of what has become an encouraging set of recent signings.

It all began with Jordan Spence renewing his links with the Tractor Boys with a permanent two year deal and then we got Joe Garner from Rangers for around 1 million smackeroos.

But the re-signing that meant most to me and perhaps the majority of Ipswich Town fans was Emyr Huws, who rejoined the Blues from Cardiff City but this time on a four year deal and not another dreaded loan.

And we can look forward to seeing young Bersant Celina wearing the Town shirt for a season long loan from Manchester City and what perhaps was even more delightful, was the way in which the Mancunians wanted him to come to Suffolk and not to Yorkshire to join Leeds United. Now that was a bit of a shock to the system!

It rather seems that owner Marcus Evans has decided he must compete and at least give manager Mick McCarthy the chance to persuade players to come to this sleepy side of the country and not perhaps more fashionable places of residence.

He must surely have realised that playing boring football and not getting the right results had an awful lot to do with the dramatic drop in season ticket sales.

The drop in ticket revenue was a real wake up call and fair play to Marcus Evans for finally addressing the problem and giving fans the chance to believe again!

Mick McCarthy has also got as many lives as an old cat it would seem but he must surely be on his last one, if the season ahead goes bottoms up!

I do not wish to dwell on this however but we must be aware that no matter how good these signings may turn out to be, the rest of the Championship is trying just as hard as us so nothing in this league is a give me.

But for the moment at least, we can dare to hope and that is a lot more than we had a few short months ago.
