While not a world-beater Daryl Murphy is just the sort of player Ipswich need to get abck to the top flight.

He put pen to paper on a permanent deal and pointed to the positive effect manager Mick McCarthy has had on the squad’s new-found belief.

Murphy said “Tabby (Jay Tabb) has joined too which is great to see and, like me, he saw the potential the side was showing last season and was keen to come back here.

“Now the focus is getting ready for the new season and I`m already looking forward to coming back for pre-season and meeting up with all the lads again.”

Murphy has always done better playing through the middle but even when he has been suck out on the left he has does well and always put in a shift, which can’t always be said about some.

He has played under three Town managers on loan and clearly enjoys life in Suffolk, after struggling to be involved at Celtic.

“I`m delighted to be back,” Murphy told the official website after penning his two-year deal.

“I had a chat with the manager at the end of the season and I`m pleased to get the deal done and finally be an Ipswich player on a permanent basis.

“It`s well documented that I love being at Ipswich and I made no secret that I wanted to return. The fans have been great with me every time I`ve been here and I think the club is really heading in the right direction.’

Like Murphy I’m feeling very positive about the new season
