More Arrivals Expected Today

I have spent many days talking about the possible signing of Hayden Coulson from Middlesbrough, but in the meantime, Paul Cook and his team have not been resting on their laurels.

On the contrary, there has been a hive of activity at HQ Portman Road with the TWTD website indicating today that Town’s attempt to sign Rangers 24-year-old central defender George Edmundson is more or less a done deal. The Glasgow giants have apparently accepted the Blues bid, which is estimated to be in the region of 900,000 quid!

It is not quite the one million pounds that some media outlets have been suggesting, but it is still a very significant investment. He is at the club at the moment discussing personal terms, and providing there are no last-minute glitches, he should be paraded to the press shortly, having signed a four-year contract with the club.

Sunderland, Portsmouth and Charlton Athletic were interested in taking the highly-rated defender on loan, along with Championship side Derby County, where he spent the second half of last season, so if Town get their man, it will be a genuine statement of intent. He was bought by Rangers from Oldham Athletic in 2019 for £750,000 but the 6ft 3-inch Mancunian struggled in Scotland and only played 13 times for them in all competitions.

Town are also closing in on another attacker too! Barnsley forward Conor Chaplin is the latest player to be linked with the Tractor Boys, and talks are apparently ongoing with both the player and the South Yorkshire club. The 24-year-old is highly regarded in that part of the world and he can play as an out-and-out striker or, if required, on the wing.

And finally, back to Hayden Coulson. Boro boss Neil Warnock is hopeful of adding “eight or nine” players to his ranks, as he targets a promotion push to the Premier League next season. Apparently, the reason for the long delay in doing a deal is now two-fold.  1. Coulson picked up a thigh strain that kept him out of the Plymouth friendly and the injury is still problematic. 2. Warnock needs reinforcements in the building before he can release him on loan.
