Ipswich did enough to beat Edgar Davids’ Barnet 1-0 in their new stadium but manager Mick McCarthy accepted the performance was not particularly good.
David McGoldrick headed in the winner ,while Scott Loach`s saved a penalty save to ensure the win.
McCarthy told the club website: “It was far from the best performance. I`m not going to stand here and tell you any lies about that. I thought they played very well, I thought they were excellent.
“Barnet passed it, kept it, made us run and chase. Loachy has had to pull a save off, and it was a good save, so that`s great for his confidence. But all in all it`s another day`s training. Another little bit in the bank ready for August 3rd.”
Town take on Colchester United on Tuesday in what is bound to be a little tougher.
