Dean Gerken will keep his place in goal despite getting in a costly pickle at Wigan.

The former Colchester United and Bristol City goalie has been forgiven by Mick McCarthy after a shambolic clearance gifted Nick Powell Wigan’s second goal.

The Blues boss told BBC Radio: It’s an honest mistake. He’s made a rick.

‘He’s been excellent so that’s not going to affect his position in the team. No chance. He’s been good enough so he’ll be in the nets on Saturday.

‘That was just crazy comic cuts at the end. He should have headed it, he knows. ‘Shoulda, woulda, coulda’ afterwards – it’s just a mistake.’

Scott Loach won’t take kindly to the news after he was dropped early in the season after a series of poor games.
