Modest Mick McCarthy praised the way his players refused to crumble under Charlton’s second half onslaught but insisted it was not really down to him.

“The self belief comes with winning games,’ McCarthy told the Daily Express. ‘It doesn`t come from me, it comes from within. They are professional players and it helps when you are winning, or at least putting in decent performances.

“It gets a bit flaky at times and you wonder if you are going to be able to hang on. But they did and I`m pleased with them.”

Although Town remain 20th they are edging towards the mid-table pack and safety and there is now a feeling that Town ae heading away from trouble and ahve enough about them to stay away from the bottom three as we go into the turn of the year.
