Marcus Evans Standing Firm On McGoldrick Bid

Mick McCarthy was always fearful that this sort of thing might happen. He intimated as much last week when he said that he was not looking to bring anyone through the doors just yet but hoped that the door would stay firmly shut and thanks to owner Marcus Evans there is every possibility that it just might!

As the transfer deadline approaches with ever increasing rapidity, it probably does not seem that way to either Evans or McCarthy and indeed the vast majority of Ipswich supporters, who believe that our star striker is simply irreplaceable – especially as the window is about to slam shut tonight before midnight!

Over the Weekend the papers were full of talk of a Leicester bid for Town`s leading scorer and after the 1-1 draw at Derby, McCarthy confirmed that the club had indeed received a bid for him but it had been turned down by Mr. Evans, who seems reluctant to see the player leave – unless of course the asking price is right. It is thought that since then, Leicester had bid again and it was declined once more. There is much talk about exactly how much it was but the general consensus is that it was between 5.5 million and 6.5 million pounds. Evans, we believe, will only sell for 8.5 million and so there is quite a financial shortfall to overcome if McGoldrick is to leave the blues but it is unsettling none the less for the player I guess and for the fans too of course.

What makes it all the more intriguing is that Neil Warnock at Crystal Palace is also showing an interest and if this became a bidding war, then Evans might just realize his ultimate financial goal and get the fee that he feels the player is truly worth.

This season though McGoldrick has not been firing on all cylinders and there is another school of thought that suggests that Town should sell because he will never rekindle his form of old. Since his injury at the back end of last season it is noticeable that he is missing some of his sharpness but this could be because he missed most of pre-season, as he was nursed back to full fitness.

Tyrone Mings was also seen as a target for Palace apparently so would you be pleased to see him go? If Town did sell, could you stand losing Cole Skuse or say Tommy Smith? I want to hear your views on this and other Town topics because together we can make a difference!
