Manager Jim Magilton has already bolstered his defence with two names this week, and it appears he is ready to strengthen his striking options too, with Crewe’s Nicky Maynard.

Maynard, who turns 22 next birthday, has come through the well respected Crewe Alexandra academy and been a big hit in his time playing for the Alex. He scored 15 goals in 28 games after an injury-hit season last season.

He has also been watched on a couple of occasions by the Ipswich coaching stuff, enough to make boss Jim Magilton ready to reportedly file an offer for the striker.

Maynard is just one of a number of strikers to have been linked with Ipswich in recent weeks, the most notably perhaps Newcastle’s Shola Ameobi. The Magpies striker is reportedly holding out for a Premiership club after an Ipswich offer, with West Brom said to be very interested.

Meanwhile, Town’s trip to Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday 15th November is going to be televised live on Sky at 5.20pm along with the Blues games against Watford and Crystal Palace, as reported yesterday.

In addition, the two East Anglian Derbies have both been switched to a Sunday lunchtime kick-off, with the first of them causing Town’s following Tuesday night game home against Bristol City to be switched to the Wednesday.
