Ipswich Town are thought to be amongst a number of clubs eyeing Tranmere Rovers defender Aaron Cresswell as well as Exeter City midfielder Liam Sercombe.

Cresswell is available on a free transfer having been released by League One Tranmere at the end of the season. Reports around Merseyside claim that at least four Championship clubs are interested in the 21-year-old, who has netted 5 times in 70 league appearances.

Meanwhile midfielder Sercombe, who is a few months younger than Cresswell, is also thought to be a target for Town manager Paul Jewell. The Exeter midfielder, who can also play at right-back, only emerged through the youth ranks at St James Park in 2007/08 but has already made over 100 league appearances, scoring 6 goals.

Rumours are likely to come thick and fast for Ipswich in the coming weeks and months, with Jewell needing to replace several outgoing players as well as making much-needed improvements in priority areas. The Blues boss has however denied tabloid speculation linking the club with a move for Peterborough United striker Craig Mackail-Smith, who has been a long-term target of Town’s newly-promoted rivals Norwich City.
