Last Night I Had A Dream…

Last night I had a dream. It was about the game at Vicarage Road tomorrow. Here is what I saw.

Last night I had a dream that the game tomorrow against Watford should not fill us with fear and trepidation because those dark clouds in the valley of despair would be washed away by the sheer brilliance of our football!

Well remember, it was only a dream.

As the game kicked off the 2,000 plus Town supporters were in good voice – even though they probably feared the worst.

Understandable perhaps given the fact that Watford are the current league leaders and over the years have become a bit of a bogey team.

But we need not have worried because dependable Daryl Murphy put us in front after just 7 minutes with a stunning finish having been put through by Kevin Bru!

The away fans were ecstatic but their enthusiasm was short lived as Troy Deeney latched onto a pass from Gabriele Angella and fire in from an acute angle to square things at 1-1

Early in the second half Town again took the lead. This time it was Freddie Sears who broke clear of the Watford back line to stroke the ball home from the edge of the box! What a fantastic strike and what a clinical finish it must be said.

It was now all hands to the pump as the Watford front line put the Town defence under immense pressure and it needed a series of last gasp goal line clearances and some fine goalkeeping from Bialkowski to keep the Hornets at bay.

But with five minutes remaining Watford scored again. This time it was Fernando Forestieri who got the home fan cheering once more with a ruthless finish after Tyrone Mings had been caught in possession.

As we went into three minutes of injury time and with the game still in the balance at 2-2 manager Mick McCarthy finally decided to put me on for the closing moments.

I remember the ball bobbling about on the edge of the Hornets box and I swung out a foot and low and behold it nestled into the corner of the net and the Tractor Boys went ballistic as did Mick the Man!

Within moments the whistle blew and I became the teams unlikely hero!

Unlikely because at 60 years of age I would do well to get onto any bench unless it was in a park feeding the ducks and because at the end of the day it was only dream.

Score prediction for tomorrow then:

Watford 2 Ipswich Town 3

Let’s keep the dream alive!
