Manager Paul Jewell has hinted that there could be further transfer activity at Ipswich Town before Wednesday’s deadline, with two defenders at the top of his wish list.

Following last week’s triple signing of Daryl Murphy, Jimmy Bullard and Ibrahima Sonko, Town have now brought in 11 new players this summer. However, boss Jewell still has further targets in mind, with additional cover for the backline remaining a priority.

The Blues are understood to have been in talks with Stoke City over potential loans for two defenders – strongly tipped to be Danny Collins and Ryan Shotton – though any such deals may have to wait until after deadline day when the loan window opens.

Jewell told the Ipswich Town Official Website: ‘We are waiting on two Premier League clubs about two players, both loans. They have their targets and if they can make that work, then they will look at freeing up the players we want. If they don’t get in players, they won’t release them.’

The Blues manager also added that he is targeting a mystery third player: ‘We have three targets in mind. Two are defenders, one isn’t and we will have to see what develops over the next 24 hours, or when the loan window opens.’

There could also be movement out of Portman Road on deadline day, with several players having been tipped to leave this summer. Tamas Priskin and Shane O’Connor are perhaps the most likely candidates for departure, though Jason Scotland could be set to stay at the club following his display against Leeds United on Saturday despite rumoured interest from Blackpool, Birmingham City, Coventry City and Middlesbrough.
