Is Town Versus Millwall Already A Six Pointer?

It might seem a little crazy to suggest as much but given our indifferent start to the new campaign and the fact that Ian Holloway has got his troops all pulling in the same direction, the game on Saturday at Portman Road is one that we certainly can`t afford to lose. Some might even consider it to be a six pointer!

I don`t want to sound like the harbinger of doom and gloom but we are in desperate need of a win and this is anything but a give-me for Ipswich Town. Millwall sit proudly in fifth place and they began their campaign under Holloway handsomely with a 2-0 win against Leeds at home, followed by a 1-0 win at Fulham. Their defence has only leaked 3 goals in five games, whilst we have doubled that and their ability to surprise sides with their quick-fire counter attacks, is a characteristic trait of all Ollie`s teams. Carlos Edwards, who is likely to be playing against his former club this weekend, has said that under Holloway they have been completely rejuvenated. We must be on our guard at all times!

Why is the win so important? Well, because anything less will see us at best near the foot of the table still and at worse, even closer to the drop zone. A win is likely to catapult us up to within two points of Millwall and possibly Norwich too, who have a tough task away to Cardiff. We would also find ourselves, in all probability, in the top half of the table again. We must get back into that winning habit fast!
Frustration however continues at Town. No sign that we are likely to acquire once more Jonathan Williams on loan. All roads to Danny Graham seem to have also drawn a blank and former youth player Owen Garvan, who was training with the blues but was not offered anything by Mick McCarthy, has instead agreed to go to Bolton for the next three months, with a view perhaps to a permanent deal. He is only 26 and I don`t know for the life of me why we let him go in the first place? It was another curious decision in my view.

Well, that`s all from me for now but here`s hoping for a rapid change of fortunes on Saturday afternoon and if you have any points to make on this topic – or any other for that matter, then we would love to hear from you here at Vital Ipswich!
