Is He Really All That Bothered?

If you listen to the flies on the wall, then Andre Dozzell has been unhappy at Ipswich for some time. It is only his dad and former Blues favourite Jason, who has persuaded him to stay. If there is some truth in these rumours, then we should know how much substance there is behind them shortly.

TWDT reported yesterday that both Blackburn Rovers and QPR are showing a keen interest in the midfielder, and with manager Paul Cook saying that virtually everyone is available for hire, we should have the answer very soon.

Remember that Blackburn Rovers had an offer for Dozzell rejected by Town in January 2020. Former Blues players Tony Mowbray and Mark Venus have been monitoring the progress of the player ever since and have been spotted on numerous scouting missions.

QPR are also said to be keeping a close eye on the former England U20 international, who has played more games for Ipswich this season than ever before. It is believed that in-demand Dozzell is attracting the attention of Brentford too, so if he really does want to leave, then he has lots of options to do so, and there may be even bigger fish that coming calling!

I have mixed feeling about the player myself. I am always sad to see a local lad depart, and especially because his father served Ipswich Town so well, but it is his performances on the field that leads me to think that perhaps he won’t be greatly missed. We know he can pick out a worldy pass, and we know that technically he is very assured, but is he a luxury we simply cannot afford?

If he stays, then it can only be because he has convinced the gaffer that his heart is in it. If he goes, then it is all of his own makings and I won’t really miss him. I have often felt that Dozzell is in the team because of his football vision and his ability to carve out that killer pass. We know he has this in his locker but what else does he have?

Well, he gets booked quite a lot, I have noted that. Sometimes it is because he is trying to prevent a breakaway and other times it seems, just because he wants to get noticed. He does not score enough goals as a midfielder with the talent he has, and yet, we know he has the technical ability to score more. Supporters are split on his usefulness in the side, and I think his only saving grace is his connections to the club. I will be interested to see if he stays or goes but either way, I am a little indifferent, to be honest.
